Recipe Ingredients:
- 450 g dried navy beans
- 1 tbsp cooking oil
- 1.5 cups diced sweet onion
- 1/2 lbs One Mile Ranch Bacon diced
SAUCE:
- 1.5 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 cup fancy molasses
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup original Diana sauce
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
- 2 tsp liquid smoke
- 1.5 cups boiling water
Directions:
- soak beans in a large bowl overnight, covering with about 2 inches of water.
- In the morning, drain soaked beans and place them in a large pot. cover with several inches of water and bring just to a boil then immediately reduce heat to somewhere between medium and medium-low to maintain a gentle simmer. Cook for 50-60 min until beans are tender (not mushy.
- Drain beans and rinse with cold water to stop the cooking process.
- Heat cooking oil and fry up the bacon and onion until just golden (about 5 min) in a Cuisinart cooking dish. When finished add cooked beans and mix well.
- In a mixing bowl, add all the sauce ingredients (other than boiling water)and mix well. Then add the boiling water to the mixture.
- Pour over the beans (if needed add more boiling water to just barely cover the beans) and gently mix.
- Put a lid on the dish and either cook in the oven at 300°F for 3 hours or on the stovetop on a simmer. Both methods need to be mixed every once in a while and add more water at any point to keep beans just barely covered.
- When finished, let sit for 10 min before serving.
ENJOY!
